Gather Women Launches Uniquely Canadian Regional Events

Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal and Toronto to host Gather: The One, The Few, The Many

WATERLOO, ON – April 13, 2016 – In 2014, a small group of women started asking: What would be possible if Canadian Christian women, across denominations, were connected from coast-to-coast? The result has been the launch of Gather; a uniquely Canadian movement drawing together women nationwide.  With a commitment to local presence in 2016 and in response to requests from leaders across Canada, one national and three regional Gather events have been announced.

Over 350 women from diverse backgrounds gathered together in Gather WomenSurrey, BC on April 2nd.  Upcoming Gather events will be held at Celebration Church, Edmonton, AB on Saturday, May 14th, 2016 and Montreal, Quebec on Saturday, June 11th, 2016. A national event is being planned in Ontario in October 2016.

When an additional 100 women showed up at the door the day of the Surrey, BC event, the Gather team was enormously encouraged with fresh vision for the Edmonton and Montreal gatherings. “I have dreamt of this national sisterhood for many years,” says Helen Burns, host of the BC regional gathering. “I am beyond grateful to see this dream coming true, and can only imagine what is to come next.”

These regional and national gatherings feature inspirational Bible teaching digging deeply into what it means to be culture-shaping image bearers of God, hearing the voices of remarkable Canadian women, and the opportunity to connect with other women who believe God is stirring the desire for a uniquely Canadian expression of His heart for us.

The Gather regional speaking team includes:

  • Sarah Bessey, author of Out of Sorts: Making Peace with an Evolving Faith and Jesus Feminist
  • Idelette McVicker, founder and editor-in-chief of Shelovesmagazine.com
  • Cathie Ostapchuk, co-founder of Gather, and leadership development trainer, consultant and coach
  • Ellen Graf-Martin, co-founder of Gather, founder & president of Graf-Martin Communications
  • Helen Burns, board member of Gather, pastor at Relate Church & author
  • Special local Gather voices in each region, including Monica Prescott in Edmonton

“God has already been speaking to many Christian women in this great nation of Canada and we are beginning to find each other,” shares Cathie Ostapchuk. “He has given us a vision to connect and link arms, to lay an infrastructure of community with the one, the few, and the many coast to coast, and with a collective voice, rise to make His name great.”

Partnering with Gather in these inaugural events are Compassion Canada and International Justice Mission Canada. “We are thrilled to welcome Compassion and IJM as partners in helping equip Canadian women to carry out our vision of both gathering in and going out to impact our world,” says Ellen Graf-Martin. “Their enthusiasm for what God is doing through Gather has been enormously encouraging.”
