CROSSINGS: A JOURNEY TO EASTER ARTS EXHIBITION COMES TO THE STREETS OF TORONTO MARCH 2 - APRIL 14, 2022

TORONTO, ON - November 24, 2021 — In a contemporary culture where self-interest and the excesses of consumerism reign supreme, the highly-anticipated Crossings: A Journey to Easter art exhibit will highlight another narrative – a narrative of self-giving and sacrifice. In this unique Canadian project, the exhibit will feature sixteen original works by Canadian artists, displayed in various locations in the heart of downtown Toronto in the weeks leading up to Easter (March 2 - April 14, 2022).

Inspired by previous Crossings exhibits in Amsterdam and Washington, D.C., Crossings Toronto offers the faithful, the spiritually curious, and art lovers a unique opportunity to experience and explore the iconic story of the Passion of Jesus. In the wake of a season of fear and anxiety, of isolation and uncertainty, and of vulnerability and death, the Passion narrative speaks powerfully to our human situation and reminds us of the possibility of hope and healing.  

IMAGO, the Toronto-based registered charity hosting the event, has a commitment to exploring the intersection of faith, art, and culture. With a reputation for aligning with powerful art and artists, such as the iconic bronze sculpture, Homeless Jesus, by renowned Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz, the organization has been committed to promoting, supporting, and advocating for artists of faith in Canada for nearly 50 years. IMAGO’s desire is that the project will be a resource of healing and hope while offering a rare opportunity to give artistic expression to this profound narrative and make it readily available to the public.

About Crossings 

Crossings will take place in Toronto from March 2 – April 14, 2022, and is part of an international series of exhibitions that began in 2016.  It will feature sixteen original works by Canadian artists of faith engaging the Scriptural Stations of the Cross. It is an all-outdoor exhibit with locations on the University of Toronto campus and at five churches in midtown Toronto.  Offering a unique opportunity to bring the iconic story of the Passion of Jesus to a wide audience, it opens the way for both personal and social transformation.  

About John Franklin (Executive Director, Imago)

John Franklin is the Executive Director of Imago. He has served in that position for the last 23 years. Prior to his current role, John was a professor of philosophy and theology at Tyndale University. John continues to deliver lectures with a focus on the intersection of theology and the arts. A gifted speaker with a compassionate heart, John was inspired to bring Crossings to Toronto after meeting the person who initiated the first Stations of the Cross exhibit in London (Aaron Rosen).
